WHAT IS BARIATRIC WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY?
Bariatric surgery is a surgical procedure performed to treat morbid obesity that can not be combated through diet and exercise alone.

Bariatric surgery helps to lose weight by restricting food intake achieved by changes of the digestive system.

What is Morbid Obesity?
Morbid Obesity, sometimes called “clinically severe obesity”, is a health condition of having a body mass index (BMI) of 30, i.e. about 100 pounds overweight for men and 80 pounds for women.

AM I BARIATRIC SURGERY CANDIDATE?
Bariatric Surgery Candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Body mass index (BMI) of 35 or higher;
  • Serious weight-related health problem, such as Hypertension, Diabetes, Gallbladder disease, Hyperlipidemia, Sleep Apnea, etc;
  • A history of morbid obesity of more than three years;
  • Inability to achieve a healthy body weight through medically supervised dieting.

WHAT ARE BARIATRIC SURGERY OPTIONS?
There are four main types of operations that can help you to keep most of the weight off. These include:

  • Adjustable Gastric Band (AGB),
  • Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass (RYGB),
  • Gastric Sleeve (GS,)
  • Biliopancreatic diversion with Duodenal Switch (BPD).

WHAT ELSE SHOULD I KNOW?
Bariatric Surgery does not include procedures for surgical removal of body fat.
