Signs and Symptoms of Alcohol Poisoning

Alcohol is a depressant of central nervous system, which means that it slows brain activity and decreases reaction time. Alcohol has a wide range of side effects.

Signs and Symptoms of Alcohol Poisoning:

  • Unconscious or semi-consciousness (mental confusion, stupor, coma);
  • Vomiting;
  • Seizures;
  • Slow respiration (fewer than eight breaths per minute);
  • Irregular breathing (lapses between breath 10 seconds or more);
  • Hypothermia (low body temperature), cold, pale or bluish skin.

If any of these signs and symptoms occur CALL the Emergency services straight away!

It is wrong to believe that the person can “sleep it off”. After the person stops drinking, the alcohol is still being absorbed from the stomach and the blood alcohol level will be rising.

Therefore, the victim is still in danger – alcohol poisoning may lead to death!
