Reiki Therapy – The System of Natural Healing

reikiReiki (pronounced “ray-kee”) is a method of spiritual healing developed by Mikao Usui in early 20th century Japan.

The word Reiki is made up of two Japanese characters - Rei (meaning Higher Intelligence) and Ki (meaning Life Force). Taken together, ‘Reiki’ can be translated into English as “universal life-force energy.”

Reiki therapy is based on the belief that Ki is a life-force energy that flows throughout the body, supports it in its vital functions and keeps it alive. If the flow is disturbed, we are more likely to suffer health problems.

Although Reiki system is not religious, it is very spiritual in nature and promotes peace and harmony with others.  Reiki theory says that Ki can be disturbed by negative thoughts and feelings, e.g. anger, doubt, fear, depression, worry.

Ki can be directed to the affected energy fields by the power of thoughts of Reiki practitioner who act as a channel for Reiki energy.

Reiki sessionIn Reiki session, recipient is sitting or lying down comfortably. There is no need for the removal of clothes. The practitioner places his hands on recipient’s body and channels Reiki energy through his hands to where it is needed for healing. There are about 12 basic hand positions. Each position is usually held up to 5 minutes, until the practitioner feels that the energy flow has diminished. Reiki session is generally 40-50 minutes long.

It is claimed that Reiki treatment will never harm and can be done on all living energy fields, including animals and plants.

Anyone can be initiated into Reiki, as no special background is needed. The attunement is administered by the Reiki Master, who gives the ability to access Reiki energy. About two days of training is needed to obtain the Reiki Level 1. Generally, there are four Reiki levels.

Depending on their level of training, Reiki practitioners can perform self-healing and send Reiki energy across long distances.

If you decide to start Reiki treatment, you should not abandon your regular therapy. They can be combined to enhance the effect.
