Plastic Surgery: Abdominoplasty - Tummy Tuck procedure

Abdominoplasty or “tummy tuck” is a procedure that minimizes the abdominal area and makes it more firm.

Abdominoplasty is a plastic surgery that removes excess fat and skin from the middle and lower abdomen in order to sculpt loose muscle wall.

The result is a flatter abdomen, and a smaller waist. The scars are usually hidden by underwear or a swimming suit.

Abdominoplasty or ‘tummy tuck” procedure is meant for persons with flabby belly after pregnancy or weight-loss.

It is not meant to be a weight loss procedure or to replace a healthy lifestyle.

Abdominoplasty is suitable for both men and women.

Choosing your surgeon is very important, as there are several different tummy tuck techniques.

The complete tummy tuck generally takes about 2-5 hours, depending on the extent of the repair. A partial tummy tuck takes about 1 or 2 hours.

Each tummy tuck surgery has its own recovery. The recovery speed depends on the extent of the surgery and the level of fitness of the individual. In general, for the first few days you’re likely to feel some pain and discomfort. Full recovery takes 2 - 6 months.

Pregnancy after abdominoplasty is of course possible, and many women have pregnancies after an abdominoplasty. However, women planning future pregnancies should consider waiting for abdominoplasty.
