Is it Normal to Break Wind Regularly?

Flatulence is a natural body function.

Every day when we drink or eat our food , we swallow some  air. If the air is not burped up, it gets trapped in the digestive tract.

In addition to swallowed air, the gas is also produced by chemical reactions in our guts and by bacteria living in our intestinal walls.

Beans, cabbage, cauliflower and some fruits are more likely to cause excessive flatulence.

Some of the intestinal gas is absorbed into the blood and is finally exhaled by the lungs. The gas that is not absorbed, however, has to be released by farting.

The normal amounts of intestinal gas in our body is about 1.5-2 litres.

So, if you break wind less than 30 times a day you are normal!
