Glucosamine for Arthritis!

Glucosamine is commonly used for the treatment of osteoarthritis.Taking this supplement for several months may completely clear joint aches and pains.

How does it work?

The cartilage that lines the moving joints of the body has a consistency similar to that of stiff rubber. It allows bones to move in a near-frictionless environment, and has shock-absorbing properties. Over time, joint cartilage can degenerate, leading to pain and stiffness in the affected joint. This problem, which can ultimately lead to a condition known as osteoarthritis, becomes more common as we age.

Some time ago people used to believe that once cartilage is damaged, there is nothing that can be done to restore it fully. But now it is recognized that cartilage tissue can be healed. This is possible because all tissues in the body are undergoing a process of continuous renewal. Even though cartilage replaces itself slowly, providing the raw materials necessary for this regeneration can have a profound effect on the health of the joints. Probably the most important nutritional building block for cartilage health is a substance known as glucosamine sulphate.

Several studies exist which support the use of glucosamine in the treatment of joint problems related to cartilage degeneration.

Glucosamine is not a painkiller, but eases joint pain by helping rebuild cartilage tissue. Because cartilage regeneration takes time, glucosamine can take two or three months to have the full effect.
